Life of Significant Soil
Come explore the wisdom of the seasons via thematically arranged quotes and songs. Live significantly!

Nature provides us with a cycle of seasons which reflect the changing concerns of our lives. Winter is associated with depth and darkness, spring with renewal, summer with heat, and autumn with harvest. Throughout this Life of Significant Soil website, you will find monthly written and musical wisdom associated with themes that reflect their season.
In his journal from July 1836, Ralph Waldo Emerson challenged: “Make your own Bible. Select and collect all the words and sentences that in your reading have been like the blast of triumph out of Shakespeare, Seneca, Moses, John and Paul.” So charged, in 2010, I originally created my first website, Life of Significant Soil, which is an homage to natural theology and the souls who helped me on my way.
I hope you enjoy LSS's second incarnation and find wisdom, comfort, and inspiration in these pages. Thank you for exploring!
In keeping with our winter seasonal theme, we acknowledge these gifts of depth and darkness:
December's theme is God, a concept with which I now struggle though I remain committed to my ultimate concerns of love, goodness, and fairness.
January recognizes the Dark Night of the Soul wherein we experience God's abandonment and our longing.
February's theme of depression invites us to find wisdom in the depths and bring that greater understanding to the light of spring.

In keeping with our spring seasonal theme of renewal, we celebrate these gifts of wisdom:
March's theme is transformation from the darkness of winter to the new life of spring.
April is filled with emergent life and possibility ~ let's dwell there with Emily Dickinson.
May's creativity springs from April’s emergent life changing the world in unexpected ways.
In keeping with summer's seasonal theme of heat, we are overcome with the following lessons:
June's passion is ignited by May's creativity as spring's renewal gives way to summer's heat.
July's romantic love emerges as June's fiery passion solidifies and the summer's heat becomes our constant companion.
August's message of inner and outer harmony is inspired by the diffusion of July's romantic love.

In keeping with autumn's seasonal theme, we will harvest these sources of wisdom:
September's theme of personal and social ethics evolves from August's personal and social harmony as we enter fall's harvesting rewards from the lessons of the months preceding.
October's wisdom emphasizing simplicity, authenticity, and gratitude adds to our fall harvest.
In November, we reflect back over the previous seasons of our life of significant soil as we prepare to enter the depth and darkness of winter.
